ABOUT JAYRED
Jayred (click the link to read the longer version of Jayred’s profile), 38, is a freelance journalist, foreign language student, Christian media advocate, certified ESL/EFL teacher, photo enthusiast, and an all-around volunteer worker.
Highly exhausted from following all the Swiss rules and from studying High German (the Germans’ German) in school while hearing all forms of Swiss German outside the language classroom, Jayred writes her adventures and misadventures as a Filipino resident of Switzerland in this personal blog. On the side, she blogs about non-Swiss things that interest her — mostly mundane stuff.
Jayred is an undercover singer and pianist — she performs for no one, not even for her partially deaf husband — who owns a high-tech karaoke machine, which she never really gets to use because she reckons that her amateur singing (and her shrill voice) might just fray the raw nerves of the retired people (the geriatric group) in her quiet Swiss neighborhood.
She used to be articulate — well, according to her family, friends and workmates — but her speech organs have become severely underused in multilingual Switzerland where German, French, Italian, and Romansch are the national languages. She, therefore, describes herself as forever “lost in translation.”
However, Jayred remains hopeful that she will be able to speak like the natives — as if — before she turns 95. Her well-meaning friends wish her all the best in her delusions.
