As a newbie antique lover (my fascination with antiques started in 2003), I’d like to announce here that the 35th Fete de la Brocante Le Landeron, reportedly the largest outdoor antiques fair in Switzerland, will be held once again in the old market town of Le Landeron on Sept. 27-28. Mark those dates, antiques fans!

Around 300 professional antiques dealers will set up shop on Friday the 26th, beginning at 2 p.m. The organizers expect approximately 100,000 visitors to attend this yearly event.

Of course, I intend to be there with my husband, a rather reluctant antique flea market visitor, who patiently put up with my brocante (secondhand) whims. I do need the car to be close by just in case I get to purchase loads of copper kitchenware (my latest must-collect passion; I’ve bought some decent copperware just recently), an antique cash register (my current must-have obsession), and a couple of Swiss milk cans (my all-time favorite).

I also look forward to buying an antique Omega wrist watch with a mechanical movement — you know, the type that you wind every morning. Hope the price would be within my budget. This early, I’m already feeling super giddy about my would-be antiques shopping spree this coming Sunday.

Someday, I’d like to have my own antiques shop. For now, I’m already content in just being a mere antique product consumer and an appreciative collector of beautiful things.

717th Birthday

Switzerland turns 717 today.

I shot this video at the lakeside park of Biel two years ago. I then uploaded it on YouTube. As of this writing, a total of 85,105 Internet users have already viewed the footage (an amazing fact I was not aware of, until now).

Happy Birthday, Switzerland! And more power to you.

(Note: My video shot of last night’s fireworks display in Biel can be viewed here.)
